About this campaign

Rome, GA

This campaign's goal is to bring gigabit-speed Internet services to all residents and businesses in the historic downtown Rome area. Parker FiberNet, the campaign manager, first launched the availability of GigNet services in January, 2013. This campaign builds on that program by allowing demand for GigNet to be aggregated and made available to all residents and businesses in the historic downtown district.

Parker FiberNet is a leading provider of communications services in Northwest Georgia, connecting hundreds of anchor institutions across an eight-county area through its extensive fiber optic network. Parker is a homegrown, local company with roots in the community and a deep belief in the industrial, cultural and creative potential of Northwest Georgia.

Parker FiberNet, LLC was formed to build fiber optic network infrastructure for commercial and public applications. This infrastructure company has installed hundreds of miles of fiber optic cable throughout Georgia, and has garnered considerable accolades for professionalism. Parker FiberNet received CLEC and OCC status in 1998, and has interconnect agreements with BellSouth and Alltel, as well as other providers in Georgia. Parker FiberNet has pole attachment/joint use agreements with BellSouth and the Southern Com-pany (the regional power company Georgia Power), and many municipal and EMC organizations.

During this campaign, residents and businesses downtown can pledge to support the expansion of gigabit services by committing to subscribe to either a residential or business-class Internet service.

Dane. Parker FiberNet has extensive middle-mile fiber already deployed in the downtown zone, and one of our core POP/colocation facilities is also located downtown. So, this campaign is focused on "edge-out" from our existing infrastructure. The 30 days is basically the time required for constructing the service drops, installing terminating equipment, and provisioning the users.

Steve. At this time, there is only one residential service level for this campaign, 1 Gbps. We welcome any thoughts you may have on the need for a lower speed-tier.

David, quick question: how will you build fiber-to-the-premise and deliver service in just 30 days after the campaign closes? Isn't there a lot of construction to be done, which will take a long time?

David, wasn't there also a lower residential level as well? Or just the one residential offering?

Hi, Michael. Thanks for your interest in the GigNet CrowdFiber campaign for downtown Rome. If you don't live or work in the active campaign area (currently downtown Rome), you can still back the campaign at the Supporter or Socialite level. Doing so will increase the chances that your neighborhood/area will be prioritized for extending fiber service in the future. In addition to hooking up any backers who pledge from the downtown area after the campaign ends, we will evaluate where to build fiber and run new campaigns based on where we have seen the most demand. On your second question, you can see the pricing for GigNet services, reflected currently as Pledge Levels in CrowdFiber. So, we have a 1 Gbps residential product for $300/month, a 1 Gbps business product for $700/month and a 100 Mbps business product for $350/month.

What if we don't live downtown? How much is service once it goes live?
